Psilocybe Cubensis Mushrooms – All You need To Know About Their Legal Status In 2022

Psilocybe Cubensis mushrooms have been used since ancient history, in different rituals. They have been legal since 1970, when they have been classified as controlled Schedule I drug, because of the hallucinogenic substance they contain – psilocybin.

Scientific research has continued by cultivating legally purchased psilocybe spores. Scientists revealed a potential medical benefit of micro dosing magic mushrooms under medical supervision, however they are still illegal. Federal regulations do not acknowledge any medically accepted use. However, considering that the FDA recognizes the potential of a psilocybin-based therapy and already approved trials, may be a sign that doctors may be able to prescribe it by 2025.

So, yes, so far, Psilocybe Cubensis mushrooms are still illegal, but their status is changing almost on a daily basis. They have been decriminalized in some states, and Oregon is the first one that will allow legal guided sessions with magic mushrooms, starting with 2023.

A few days ago, Colorado also passed a ballot initiative to decriminalize the use of Psilocybe Cubensis Mushrooms by people 21 and older. It is expected that state-regulated “healing centers” will appear in the near future, where patients will be able to experience the effects of the psilocybin, under supervision.

There are also signs that Washington, California and New York will follow, and decriminalization initiatives seem to be successful in several other states too.
