For laboratory grade mushrooms to be grown, certain conditions have to be met. Laboratories that grow and study laboratory grade mushrooms are also equipped with pasteurization and refrigeration rooms, production spaces and shipping areas, where all the important substances and materials are received.

Spores are typically kept in sterilized water inside special syringes known as mushroom spore syringes. These tools are then used to inoculate a substrate where the mushroom will grow. Keeping the mushrooms away from contaminants and ensuring that their growth cycle is maximized in efficiency are some of the most important things that scientists focus on in order to grow genuine laboratory grade mushrooms.
